Interview Trans by @bapcha_

<ELLE> September 2016:
His real name is Kim Jiwon. The name 'Bobby' originates from his favorite musician, Bob Marley.
Bobby who emigrated to the U.S. when he was in elementary school graduated middle school and came to Korea by himself,
leaving his family behind. After going through years of training and three warlike survival shows, he debuted as the rookie group 'IKON' last year.
Bobby especially showed off his strong presence before his team by breaking the prejudices toward idol rappers and becoming the final winner of
<Show Me the Money 3> before his debut. And now, while he's still surrounded by numerous rumors (about his solo album), Bobby's preparing for
his first solo album that gathered people's expectation for 'rapper' Bobby.
Although everything about it is still a secret (unfortunately, we (Elle) couldn't get any hint about Bobby's solo album), we couldn't hold back our curiosity.
So we went to go peek on Bobby who's getting ready to release his solo. From there, we realized that instead of wearing snapbacks backward, Bobby
suits in VETEMENTS pullover and pink turtleneck sweater very well. We were also quite surprised by his slim body line and well-trained, solid abs.
The Q&As that were done through emails and Kakaotalk due to his busy schedule, we could feel both 'artist' Bobby's seriousness and 22-year-old Kim
Jiwon's playfulness.
Q. You're really busy lately, right? I heard you filmed a MV all night a few days ago too.
A. I'm okay. Although whenever I open my eyes, I move from YG building to home back and forth, there's still some time to spare.
Q. Did you watch <Show Me the Money 5>? If you did, who did you cheer for or keep an eye on?
A. C Jamm! I thought he was the best rapper in <Show Me the Money 3> as well. Whenever I watch SMTM, my heart races. I'm just the same as the other audiences.
Q. You recently did a reality program called <Father and I>. How was it? Doing a reality show with your dad?
A. Disregarding the fact that it was a reality program, I really felt good that I went to Hawaii with my dad. It sure feels like we're even closer now.
Q. During the program, you said "I want to become a father like my own."
A. I don't necessarily want a son like me, but I want to become a dad like my dad. A dad like a friend, who can understand and relate to his son, like my dad.
Just like how my dad always did, I want to show my family happiness only.
Q. I also remember the scene where you talked about 'artists' with your dad. You said there are artists who work to satisfy themselves and there are
the ones who work to satisfy the others. You said you're the first one. What's the standard of your own satisfaction?
A. It's simple. Just like how I think 'this is good' or 'this is cool' whenever I listen to my favorite artists' songs, I need to feel that for myself. I want to do the music you can listen
to from the moment you open your eyes 'till you fall asleep.
Q. What was the most satisfying music you've done so far?
A. Lee Hi sunbae's “Video”.' Lyrics for that song was the most mature lyrics I wrote so far. I also like how it was an opportunity for me to talk about something a little different than usual.
Q. It's been a year since 'iKON' debuted. How do you feel when you look back to the past year?
A. I think it passed very fast. I don't really think we accomplished something but only feel that we need to let the public know iKON. We have a long way to go. We have so much more to show,
we also want to experience more things.
Q. Will iKON be the true icon after 10 years?
A. No one knows how things will be 10 years later. I don't even know what's going to happen tomorrow.
Q. How is your memory of spending your childhood in the U.S.? What was the music that has a special meaning to you during that time?
A. I experienced racial discrimination when I was young. During that time, the song I always listened to on the school bus is Dynamic Duo's 'Insomnia.' I didn't really know what hiphop was back then.
But through that song and Dynamic Duo sunbaenims, I started to understand K-hiphop naturally.
Q. What's your favorite playlist nowadays?
A. Mura Masa, Tom Misch, and Desii2ner. Mura Masa's sound is very fresh and deep. Tom Misch's songs are great when I plug in earphones and rest; it relaxes my mind. Desiigner's songs are
great as well, but I especially like his energy when he's performing live.
Q. From your trainee days through <WIN>, <Show Me the Money3>, <Mix & Match> and now, where did your fighting spirits come from?
A. I just let myself go with the flow, tried my best and realized that I was here. I don't really know if I have a strong mentality or not. It's a very natural thing to collapse when anyone run into a wall.
I think all of my source of energy comes from my family. It's also in front of my family when I'm at my weakest state. Especially in front of my mom and grandma, I become very small.
Q. Your signature smile when you smile mischievously is very attractive. As a human, as a man. What's the other attractiveness you can appeal to the others?
A. I don't know. From now on, that's my homework to find out.
Q. What's a thing you want to throw away or change about yourself?
A. I sometimes think I tend to take everything too lightly. I want to think a little bit more deeply and consider anything and everything valuable.
Q. Do you think you're living a 22-year-old, youth life well?
A. No, I think I'm missing out on a lot of things.
Q. Like what?
A. I want to attend school like an ordinary 22-year-old person, want to worry about my GPA and assignments, go travel with friends, drink all night long, be in a relationship and get dumped, want to work
part-time job, live in the PC room all day, enjoy 'Burning Friday Night’, ride subways and buses, want to go to Sokcho, eat all three meals a day with my family...
There's a lot more but I'll end up talking all night if I list everything.
Q. Can you express your current state of mind with a single line of rap?
A. The more you sleep, the better your feel. Power uppppppppppppppppppp!
